THE CLIFF FLY |

Clifford Ramos has been chosen "Fly Fishing Guide Of The Year"
by a vote of the fly fishing clients of Silver King Lodge and clients of other
lodges that have had the pleasure of using his services. On the east coast of
Costa Rica where the Tarpon is the most sought after game fish, tradition has
been broken in a significant way. The numbers of tarpon hooked, jumped and
landed are now in favor of the fly fisherman. This is mainly due to the efforts
of Clifford Ramos . I have personally seen numerous tarpon being jumped and
fought by Clifford’s clients this past October while I and other fishermen using
jigs and plugs were having somewhat less success . On the first two of five days
fishing they had 25 tarpon on and boated 7. During the times when they weren’t
fighting tarpon they were landing Jacks in the twenty pound
range.
Clifford is a personable young man who loves fly fishing with a
passion. Born in Barra Del Colorado he is married to Diana and has three
children, one girl and two sons. His youngest son Allen has his passion for fly
fishing.
Clifford has been fly fishing for fifteen years having learned
it from a client, Nick Curcione. He has since developed his art and technique to
the point that he ties his own flies and has developed a method of fishing deep
water tarpon with a fly. He can help even the most advanced fly fisherman
improve his technique. The "Cliff Fly" developed and tied by Clifford accounted
for most of the tarpon that his clients have caught.
The "Cliff Fly",
with Clifford guiding, has accounted for an astounding 23 tarpon jumped and 16
landed by Harry Kain in one day fishing.
When fly fishing at Silver King
Lodge, Clifford recommends a 14 weight rod in the ocean and a 12 weight rod in
the river. Lines are sinking with 400 grain in the river, 500 grain in the river
mouth and 800 grain in the ocean. If you choose to bring your own flies he
recommends dark colors, black and red with some white and they should have eyes.
Larger flies are best.
Clifford Ramos has been with Silver King Lodge for
over a year and is the type of person that would be happy to have both the
experienced or the novice fly fisherman catch his passion for landing a Silver
King Tarpon on a fly.
